The Okavango Delta
The Okavango River flows into the sands of the Kalahari Desert to create a huge inland delta and one of the most spectacular wildlife areas in Africa - the Okavango Delta. Meandering hippos have cut swathes through the papyrus reeds, forming channels through to islands, lagoons and marshes that support a vast range of plants, fish, animals, insects and birds. Here you will find some of the largest concentrations of elephants in all of Africa: huge herds of buffalo, zebra, giraffe, antelope and all the predators - lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, as well as the rare wild dog.
