Named for Scandinavian royalty, Kings Pool overlooks the handsome oxbow-shaped Kings Pool Lagoon in the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve bordering Chobe National Park.

Kings Pool

The 125 000-hectare (308 000-acre) Linyanti Concession bordering Chobe National Park’s western boundary is an enormous wildlife-rich area with an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space. The bulk of the concession is comprised of different mopane woodland associations, but along the Linyanti River exists a strip of riparian forest and floodplain. The concession is bisected by an ancient watercourse – the Savuti Channel – famous as a sporadic and unusual watercourse, possibly as a result of tectonic activity in the area. Dry for many years, it started flowing again in 2008 which led to an influx of waterbirds and adaptation from the resident animals. In keeping with its erratic nature, the Channel is dry once more, exposing open grasslands and creating a new dynamic in wildlife activity. The area is famed for its herds of elephant that reach the world’s highest densities in the dry winter months.
