This month's eco warriors are Tongabezi and Sindabezi in Livingstone, Zambia, for their going green initiative.
Tongabezi has several wonderful systems in place to make sure the property remains eco friendly and has a lower environmental impact. Tongabezi orders the majority of their wood from sustainable forests in the Copper belt near Ndola. With regards to plastic, they have vastly eliminated plastic pollution by making use of Vivreau still and sparkling water bottling systems, saving approximately 20 000 plastic bottles a year.
Togabezi have also been recycling water used in the lodge, via their very own purification plant, and the recycled water is used to feed the Tongabezi wildlife dam as well as for irrigation.
Sindabezi, situated on Sindabezi, is powered entirely by solar energy and paraffin lamps are used for light. The cooking is done using gas, and even the waste water system is solar powered. They are also making use of biodegradable toiletries and kitchen products.
Well done Tongabezi and Sindabezi for your great environmentally friendly initiatives and looking after your amazing surroundings!
