Chobe National Park: The Ultimate Safari Experience

Well known for its impressive elephant population, the park is considered home to the highest concentration of elephants in Africa, especially during the dry season. In the dry months from June to the end of August, thousands of elephants gather at the Chobe River, which acts as a primary water source for a variety of species during these months. Vast herds of buffalo, several species of antelope and even zebras can also be seen drinking along the river.

Wherever a large number of herbivores are found, predators are not far behind. The park boasts plenty of predators, especially during the winter months. African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, leopards and lion are plentiful in the area.


Elusive leopards are also present in decent numbers, and can be seen on game drives which head deep into the park - an extremely popular activity with visitors to the park. It has even been reported that local prides of lions occasionally attempt to prey on young elephants, due to the abundance of them in the region, which makes for a thrilling and rare sighting.

Of course with the river bordering the park hippos, crocodiles and a variety of unusual African bird life is are easily spotted on a river cruise, making this an all round satisfying destination. Many of the lodges are overlook the river, allowing guests to experience fantastic game viewing from the comfort of their rooms, before setting out an a day packed with adventure and activities.
