Harare Airport Renamed, To be upgraded with $153M loan facility from China
On the eve of the official renaming of Harare International Airport on 9th November 2017, it was announced the facility would undergo a $153 Million upgrade through a loan facility made available by the China Exim Bank, according to reports. Dr Joram Gumbo, Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister confirmed that the government had been given the go ahead to start construction by the Chinese government. There have been reports that former president Robert Mugabe has negotiated that all infrastructural name-changes in the country will remain unchanged as part of his exit package from the presidency. It remains unclear weather this will remain the case once a constitutionally elected government steps in. All flights and services remain unchanged and it is ‘business as usual’ in Harare and other airports around the country.
